Fattegad, also known as Fatte Durg, is a small but historically significant fort located in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, about 15 km from Dapoli.
Historical Significance:
Fattegad was one of three forts built to safeguard the more prominent Suvarnadurg Fort; the other two were Goa Fort and Kanakdurg.
The fort came under the control of Tulaji Angre, a prominent Maratha naval commander. Due to the escalating rivalry between the Peshwa and Tulaji Angre, a joint force of the British and the Peshwa launched a campaign against him. In this conflict, Commander James of the British forces captured Fattegad and handed it over to the Peshwas. However, by 1817, the British had seized control of it from the Peshwas.
