Bhudargad Fort

 Bhudargad Fort, a historical hill fort, stands proudly near Paal village in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, India. Perched atop a massive vertical rock, this fort boasts a strategic location in the heart of the Sahyadri mountain range, approximately 63 kilometers south of Kolhapur and easily accessible by road.   

History

King Bhoj of the Shilahara dynasty is credited with constructing Bhudargad Fort in the 12th century. Over the centuries, the fort witnessed the rise and fall of various powers. It came under the control of the Adilshahi dynasty before being captured by the Marathas in 1667. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj recognized its strategic importance and renovated and reinforced it as a vital military outpost. However, the Mughals briefly captured it before the Marathas recaptured it in 1672.
