Bhamer Fort

 


Bhamer Fort, also known as Bhamergad, is a historical hill fort located near Bhamer village in the Sakri Taluka of Dhule district, Maharashtra, India. Situated approximately 48 kilometers northwest of Dhule city and about 10 kilometers south of Sakri, the fort stands at an elevation of around 700 meters (2300 feet) above sea level.   

Historically, Bhamer held significant importance as the capital of the Ahir kings. Its strategic location along the ancient Surat-Burhanpur highway contributed to its prosperity as a trade center. The fort's origins are believed to date back possibly to the Satvahana period, evidenced by the presence of ancient caves in the hill escarpments. Over time, it came under the rule of various dynasties, including the Faruqui Sultans, the Marathas, and briefly, even witnessed a revolt against British rule in 1820 by Kalekhan.
