Ahivant Fort, also known as Ahivantgad, is a hill fort located in the Nashik district of Maharashtra, approximately 55 kilometers from Nashik city.
History
The control of Ahivant Fort has shifted hands several times throughout history:
- Adilshah: In 1636, the fort was under the control of Adilshah.
- Mughal Empire: Mughal Emperor Shahjahan sent Shaista Khan to conquer the Nashik region. Alivardi Khan, a cavalier of Shaista Khan, successfully captured Ahivant Fort.
- Maratha Confederacy: In 1670, the Maratha King Shivaji Maharaj won the fort from the Mughals.
Later, Aurangzeb sent Mahabat Khan and Diler Khan to siege the fort, leading to its surrender to the Mughals. - British East India Company: In 1818, following the fall of Trimbak Fort, Ahivant Fort, along with 17 other forts, was captured by British Colonel Prother.
